http://www.katiekupcake.com started out as a fashion blog, but it has mutated into its own little monster. Lets pay homage to our roots and oogle over these gems from Substitute. Get them here at nastygal. I went from worshiping my collection of sky-high Jeffrey Campbells to galavanting around the world in ballet flats, combat boots and neon colored sneakers.  But, I love these. A lot.

Good morning to my dear friends and followers. I have been at this whole blogging thing for just a few short months, and already I find myself celebrating 40,000 blog views! When I logged on this morning to write my celebratory and thankful post, I found myself staring at a bunch of black blobs on the WordPress website. My (awesome) blogging platform has blacked out their ‘freshly pressed’ page as a protest against the Stop Internet Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA). I consider myself fortunate to have unwittingly allied myself with a blogging website that understands the extreme ramifications of these two pieces of legislation.

I am a lot of things: edgy, quirky, a boundary pusher… but I am not a thief or a crook. The ambiguous language of the SOPA and PIPA will allow quick and easy persecution of bloggers like myself (and their hosting websites). Please check out the video that I have posted below and read up on these bills. Thanks for reading!

Good morning to all of my dear readers. The half-full/half-empty, optimism/pessimism metaphor is so last week. I decided that I want my glass to be FULL at all times, therefore I will be taking into account the amount of air that fills the space that is void of water.

You should probably do the same.

Oh, and today I take a stab a real-life, big-girl job. I hope that it pans out so I can tell you all about it this evening. Korporate Kupcake is currently wearing a blazer and a pencil skirt. Oh.em.gee, its true. The pencil skirt is made of a soft cotton with a supple leather trim and the blazer has great structured shoulders, which are accented by a delicate ruffle. I chose a silk shirt in a beautiful orange: the color of joy, creativity and enthusiasm. I am going to knock these guys off their feet.

So I am between semesters at the moment, enjoying a nice lull in the typical chaos of my life. A week from today I will start an internship and dominate my last semester of school. This little break in the action has done wonders for my creativity, I went to NYC for a weekend and came back on a mad-costuming tear.

So here is my latest and greatest creation: a fusion between cookie monster and party monster.

I got this really cool fabric at Savers for super cheap (you can read all about it here) and I decided that it was totally cookie monster fur. I made leggies, a little skirt, a bikini top and a hood.

The eyes snap off, I am going to make little ears so I can be a blue kitty as well.

…If you are going to be a superstar DJ, there are three simple rules you need to remember: Number One: You can always rely the Studio 54 compilation set. They’re premixed! They last for hours. And Number Two: Madonna. Always works. And Number Three: When all else fails, play techno! It’s nondescript, nonrecognizable, and everyone will think you’re *so* cutting edge.

It’s time that I treated myself to a new toy! This bad-boy was discounted fifty dollars off at Joanne fabric, I just couldn’t pass up the deal. If anyone local wants to take my singer ‘simple’ sewing machine off my hands, shoot me a message and we can negotiate :-) When I was sewing my ‘cookie-monster leggies” I realized that I needed something with a bit more ‘umph’ for my costuming. If you are also looking for something with some ‘umph’ check out your local Joannes and see if they have a similar deal! Love and light. Xo.

These Deena and Ozzy patent leather oxfords were ‘cool’ back in March, but I just got my paws on them and I think they are fabulous. I mean really, the day-glow orange is so classy and timeless. My mom hates them.

Yeah, they literally glow.

And nails to match, obviously.

Good morning beautiful people! I want to thank everyone who came out to the laced-bass event at Studio 3 in Newport last night, it was a smashing time!

I have been crafting A LOT, but crafting involves fabric and in order to purchase fabric you must have money. I have been short on cash but my creativity has been bursting out of my ears: initiate operation up-cycle. Savers is my new spot for finding awesome material. I scored a giant tie-dye duvet cover that I turned into a pair of harem pants (with yards to spare). I also scavenged a couple yards of this awesome fuzzy cookie-monster fur, I made some awesome leggies and I can’t wait to use the scraps for another fuzzy creation.

Here are the new Harem pants! The fabric was only $10.00 and it was at least five yards. Super high quality jersey material = love.

I sewed a sash on the top of this pair for a fun variation. SO COMFY.

Now for the cookie monster leggies! This material is oh so soft and fuzzy, I also decided to use the tie-die as trim around the top. :)

so good <3

I am on an unconscious mission: it involves picking up new hobbies, tasks and activities like wildfire. I don’t wake up and tell myself, “oh man, yeah, I think I want to learn how to make Harem Pants / Wings / Cupcakes today.” I just sort of find myself at the craft store gathering the necessary items, full of excitement and a sense of adventure. A long time ago I came to terms with the fact that I would never be able to commit 100% to a certain task, regardless of how passionate I may be about these aforementioned activities. I could never be the best surfer because I also wanted to be the best student. I will never be the best maker of wings, because I choose to expend an equal amount of creative energy on harem pants and cupcakes. I have been coming to terms with this part of myself lately, it feels nice to let myself slip from project to project without having the notion that I should be more ‘focused’ in a specific area of my life.

As long as I am happy with myself and I can put my heart into each of these little endeavors, I think that I am doing something right. And gosh, I feel really good lately.

So what am I writing about? Oh yeah, new missions. I want to make this dress. I do not know how to crochet and I know nothing about macrame. Do any of my amazing readers have any tips for me? I think I am going to look at some online tutorials and try to teach myself. I suppose I should start with a scarf or something simple? But I really want this dress.

I found this pattern on Etsy at the wonkyzebra store. I am going to buy it as encouragement to dive into the beautiful world of crochet. And no, I am not going to use it as a wedding dress. Because this Kupcake is not getting married. Not eva, no way.

And look at this one….are you %#$!-ing kidding me? GORGEOUS! Those silly hippies sure knew (know?) how to work it.

And I need a bikini too.

have a great day and enjoy the scenery.

Love is such a silly thing. Once you fully give your heart to someone, you can never get every last piece of it back; regardless of how terrible (or amicable) the break up may be or how far apart you may drift. I know one thing for sure; I would rather have pieces of my heart scattered all around the planet, rather then have the whole thing to myself; safely encapsulated in my lonely chest. Thanks Ms. Warrior Princess  for turning me on to the following video: it was some wonderful food for thought that put my mind (and heart) on overdrive.
