Crystal Creations & Viral Sound

My buddies over at  Elektrick AVE Productions and Viral Sound comissioned me to sew some slip covers for these awesome crystal art installations. They are placed on stage and projected on with 3D mapping. We finished the project like ten minutes before they had to be brought over to Rock and Roll Resort, so I am not sure how much time the VJ had to play with the projections…but it looked awesome for the first go!! Here are some pictures of the process and a video from the festival, with the crystals in action. I can’t wait to see them in person!!!

Eli – Do you know how to sew spandex?

Me – Yes. …I mean… only if its for full-body spandex uniforms for the guys in Viral

Eli brought these things over to my house, and I was like…wtf am i supposed to do with these square crystals? They had to figure out how to build the tops of the structures, which was kind of a pain in the ass. But it ended up working out just fine!

It was a learning process for sure, but I enjoyed all the trail-and-error and problem solving that went i to this project. I value any opportunity to make something awesome! Especially for friends.

We put velcro down the sides of the crystals. In the future, I will probably use ties. Velcro is annoying and does not work with lightweight fabric. Fail on my part.

I reinforced the tops with a triangle made out of fleece, this helps the crystal maintain it’s point.

Ties at each of the corners help the cover stay in place.

Ta-da!! I gotta say, I am really proud of this project.

Side note…. I am SO grateful to be able to help these wonderful human beings out. It is so nice to find a group of like-minded individuals who share your passion for creativity, awesomeness and life in general. Rock on friends <3
